2008 Global AIM Congress

Feb 25 The Global AIM Congress 2008 will be held 17-19 June 2008 in Singapore with the theme "Quality AIM". The purpose of the Global AIM Congress is to develop a global strategy for transition from Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) to Aeronautical Information Management. FAA is updating the U.S. NOTAM System

Jan 25 The FAA is updating the U.S. NOTAM System (USNS) from 0000 EST to approximately 0300 EST on Monday, January 28, 2008, to implement the new definition for Distant NOTAMs. No new NOTAMs will be available during the system upgrade; however, queries will remain active for NOTAMs issued prior to the outage. Upon completion of the system upgrade, all new Distant NOTAMs entering the USNS will include a keyword at the beginning of the NOTAM text. Over the next 120-days, legacy civil Local NOTAMs will transition to the new Distant NOTAM format. During this transition period, some Local NOTAMs will only be available from Flight Service. Users should continue to check with Flight Service during this time. This is an historical change that could only have been possible by the continued support and encouragement of our stakeholders and partners.

Civil ôLocalö NOTAMs will become NOTAM ôDös effective January 28, 2008

Nov 06 The Federal Aviation Administration has signed the NOTAM Order 7930.2 enabling the first phase of NOTAM Realignment to proceed. This NOTICE goes into effect January 28, 2008, at which time civil local NOTAMs will now be classified as NOTAM DÆs and thus will be stored, numbered and distributed throughout the United States NOTAM System. These NOTAMs will be input with keywords at the beginning of each NOTAM to aid in parsing and classifying this NOTAM data. Examples of these keywords and further NOTAM examples can be found on this web site under NOTAM poster/brochure and in the NOTAMs NOTICE 2 7930.2.

NOTAM Realignment Town Hall Meeting on October 19, 2007

Oct 03 The Federal Aviation Administration's Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) Group will host a NOTAM Realignment Town Hall Meeting on October 19, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Washington DC. The meeting will address:

• Summary of changes planned for December 2007
• Safety risk management results
• Test plans for downstream data users
• Timeline for planned changes

The meeting will be held in the FAA Headquarters Auditorium 3rd floor, 800 Independence Ave SW, Washington DC 20591. The event will also be coordinated via the Internet. To register please email Kimberly.Middleton@faa.gov with your name, organization, title, phone and email.

Industry Requirements for Digital NOTAM Submission

Sept 10 More than 110 participants from the FAA, airlines, airports and the aviation industry gathered that the Federal Aviation Administration to discuss plans for Digital NOTAM submission. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the Digital NOTAM concept and identify a working group to develop specifications for Digital NOTAM submission. As part of the meeting EUROCONTROL and the FAA discussed the global strategy for Digital NOTAM with emphasis on joint FAA/EUROCONTROL cooperation. The FAA team demonstrated the proof of concept Digital NOTAM system. In the after we reviewed operational and technology issues that need to be addressed by the Industry/FAA working group for Digital NOTAMs.
